End of line....
I have today just finished setting up what will, in all probability, be my last ever PPC based Macintosh. I decided to move up to a G5 iMac for my work computer, replacing my old mirror drive door G4. I am as impressed with the hardware design as ever. I pumped it up to 2 gig 'o ram. The case is quite easy to open for ram installation, and the innards of the machine are quite lovely.
One note, the setup assistant was unable to transfer the settings from the old mac, but that was an issue of the old one having Tiger on it and the new machine was still running Panther. I updated and all was well. I will admit that I was surprised that the old desktop machine could boot in firewire disk mode. That just made everything all too easy.
Now for my comments on the MacTel machines of the future. I have no problem with it at all. My love for mac has been its functionality, which has been a software thing for the past several years. The fact that early reports are saying that the Intel based macs will load and run Windoze will actually make my life easier. I will not have to buy a windows machine just to run a game or some such. VirtualPC or just WinXP for mac (or what ever Micro$oft comes up with) will not entail the major performance lags caused by emulating x86 with PPC.
Pax,
Anachronus.
P.S. This 20" iMac is fantastic!!!!!
